De regering is voornemens om op 1 augustus de Suralco en Afobakkadam over te nemen.
Dat blijkt vanmiddag uit een gezamenlijke statement van de regering van Suriname en de Alocoa. Een eerdere streefdatum van 1 juli is niet gehaald.

The Government of Suriname and Alcoa announced in March 2015 the intent to pursue a transaction where a Government-owned entity would acquire Suralco, including the mining, refining and Afobaka hydroelectric operations, following the Government’s decision to sustain the bauxite industry in Suriname. The parties anticipated reaching agreement on the transaction by July 1, 2015.
Discussions have been ongoing and progress is being made. The parties now expect to reach agreement on principle terms by Aug. 1, 2015. The transaction is subject to final documents, approvals, consents and due diligence which are expected to be complete by the end of the year.
